Gopher State ISC travel league... The DMS Knights of Fargo, NoDak. won
the Minnesota ISC Gopher State travel league and its berth to the ISC World
Tournament in Sioux City, Iowa. Both DMS and Happy Chef of Mankato
finished with 8-1 records, but DMS gets the nod by virtue of beating Chef 1-0
in the very first game of league play.
DMS' Jim Speral out-dueled Chef's Tom Bakey in a match-up of the league's
two top pitchers. Speral tossed a 4-hitter with 9 strikeouts, while Bakey
allowed two hits and Kd' 9. Speral's been perfect in league play the past
two years, finishing 6-0 in 1998 and 2-0 this year.
Fargo was well represented as Kegel Signs finished third at 6-3. Clustered
together at 4-5 was Geneva, Minn.; Junkers Bar & Grill of No. Mankato; EMO
Bulldogs of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada; and Cunningham Sports of St.
Paul. At 2-7 was Villard, Minn. and Rod's Bar of Good Thunder finished
0-9.
