2004
Jack Grafmeier Invitational
June 4-6, Kimberly, Wisconsin
3-2
record
With a makeshift lineup shaped by missing players due to a wedding,
a graduation, a baptism, coaching commitments, and injuries, the Fargo IS Knights still had a successful weekend at the Grafmeier in Kimberly, WI. Finishing 2nd with both defeats coming at the hands of the Farm.
In a dynamic tournament field consisting of 9 of the top ranked 23 rated teams, the short handed IS Knights finished 2-1 in pool play, posting a 2-0 victory over the 23rd ranked Bar on the Avenue, losing 2-0 to the 3rd ranked Farm, and beating Plangger's 3-0.
Advancing to the playoffs, the IS Knights beat 4th ranked Circle Tap 3-1in the semifinals before losing again to The Farm in the championship in a run shortened game.
Playing without 3 starters who bat in the middle of the lineup, 2 injured players, and a pitcher in the outfield was not the way the Knights wanted to kick off their opening tournament of the season. However, with spectacular pitching and great defense the team hung tough for the first
four games of the weekend. Even though everything wore out at that point the Knights are extremely happy with where they are at so early in the season.
The 11th ranked Fargo IS Knights record now stands at 16-2, with both losses coming at the hands of 3rd ranked Farm. Victories so far include wins over 4th ranked Circle Tap, 15th ranked Richards Wood Products, two wins over 22nd ranked Bergstrom/Kegel, and 23rd ranked Bar on the Avenue.
