July 6-8, Circle Tap and Memorial Park, Denmark, Wisconsin

Fourth Place in Pool C, 1-2 record
#6 June 21 Ranking

The #6-ranked MinnDak Millers traveled to Denmark, Wisconsin this past weekend for the Boys of Summer and came away with a disappointing 1-2 record.

The Millers entered the weekend shorthanded with injuries to John Tschida, Bob Fleming, Guy Carlson, Lamar Noriega, Steve Baumgartner, Tim Tweiten and Rick Lang, all of whom did not make the trip.

MinnDak’s bench shortened on Friday when Jason Wandler left with a shoulder injury.  Other players were banged up during the course of the weekend as well.

The Millers would like to thank BJ Hunhoff and Tommy Thompson for making the trip to Denmark and helping them out this weekend.

In their two losses, the Millers left 19 runners on base as the MinnDak bats were unable to break either game open.

Below are summaries for each game.

Pool Play, Pool C

Friday

#13 Portland DeMarini (Portland, Ore) 5 #6 MinnDak Millers 2

The Millers and Portland gave the fans in attendance a great game to watch as Ward Gosse and Bricklin Anderson battled each other to a scoreless tie as the game entered the seventh inning.

Portland put five runs on the board in the top of the seventh.  A great defensive play by Gregg Cascaes was negated on a bang-bang call in which the Portland player was called safe on what would have been the third out.

Two batters later, Rob Gehrke hit a three-run homer.

MinnDak attempted a rally in the bottom half.  With two outs, Cascaes walked, Chad Boom singled and Roman Foore plated both players with a double.

Tony Kunka would walk before Mike Piechnik entered the game and ended the contest with the tying run at the plate.

MinnDak left 10 batters on base as the Portland staff walked six and hit two.

#24 Plangger’s Furniture (Benton Harbor, Mich) 6 #6 MinnDak Millers 1

The Millers left another 9 runners on base this game and committed four errors and weren’t able to overcome either as they dropped their second game on the weekend, eliminating any chance of advancing to Sunday.

Plangger’s started the game out with three runs on a pair of Miller errors.

Plangger’s would score two more runs in the fifth and one in the sixth.

MinnDak scored their lone run in the contest in the bottom of the seventh as Tommy Thompson was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame then stole second base.

Lucas Goring’s single pushed Thompson to third.

With one out, Chad Boom’s sacrifice fly to leftfield scored Thompson.
