The #6-ranked MinnDak
Millers traveled to Denmark, Wisconsin this past weekend for
the Boys of Summer and came away with a disappointing 1-2
record.
The Millers entered the
weekend shorthanded with injuries to John Tschida, Bob
Fleming, Guy Carlson, Lamar Noriega, Steve Baumgartner, Tim
Tweiten and Rick Lang, all of whom did not make the trip.
MinnDak’s bench shortened on
Friday when Jason Wandler left with a shoulder injury.
Other players were banged up during the course of the
weekend as well.
The Millers would like to
thank BJ Hunhoff and Tommy Thompson for making the trip to
Denmark and helping them out this weekend.
In their two losses, the
Millers left 19 runners on base as the MinnDak bats were
unable to break either game open.
Below are summaries for each
game.

The Millers and Portland gave
the fans in attendance a great game to watch as Ward Gosse
and Bricklin Anderson battled each other to a scoreless tie
as the game entered the seventh inning.
Portland put five runs on the
board in the top of the seventh. A great defensive play by
Gregg Cascaes was negated on a bang-bang call in which the
Portland player was called safe on what would have been the
third out.
Two batters later, Rob Gehrke
hit a three-run homer.
MinnDak attempted a rally in
the bottom half. With two outs, Cascaes walked, Chad Boom
singled and Roman Foore plated both players with a double.
Tony Kunka would walk before
Mike Piechnik entered the game and ended the contest with
the tying run at the plate.
MinnDak left 10 batters on
base as the Portland staff walked six and hit two.

The Millers left another 9
runners on base this game and committed four errors and
weren’t able to overcome either as they dropped their second
game on the weekend, eliminating any chance of advancing to
Sunday.
Plangger’s started the game
out with three runs on a pair of Miller errors.
Plangger’s would score two
more runs in the fifth and one in the sixth.
MinnDak scored their lone run
in the contest in the bottom of the seventh as Tommy
Thompson was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame then stole
second base.
Lucas Goring’s single pushed
Thompson to third.
With one out, Chad Boom’s
sacrifice fly to leftfield scored Thompson.

The Millers salvaged the
weekend by scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh
to win their only game on the weekend.
Aspen built a 2-0 lead with
single runs in the second and third.
MinnDak evened the game in
the bottom of the fourth scoring two runs, both on wild
pitches.
Aspen grabbed the lead back
in the top of the sixth with two runs.
In the bottom of seventh with
one out, BJ Boom reached on a two-base error. Zach Goring
walked, followed by Tommy Thompson’s double that scored Boom
and Goring and tied the game.
Thompson then advanced to
third on a wild pitch.
Lucas Goring reached on a
fielder’s choice that scored Thompson and ended the game.

The Millers would like to

with Circle Tap for making the Boys of Summer a first class
event for yet another season.
The Millers are off this
coming weekend to rest and heal before returning to action
“locally” at the West St. Paul Tournament next weekend.
