The #10-ranked MinnDak
Millers kicked off their 2007 season by going undefeated at
the Jack Grafmeier Memorial Tournament at Sunset Park in
Kimberly, Wisconsin.
MinnDak went undefeated
through Friday and Saturday’s Pool Play games and in the
process earned the number one seed out of Pool A.
The Millers were scheduled to
play Dolan & Murphy in the second semifinal Sunday. Heavy
rain put the first semifinal on rain delay and then around
noon the remainder of the tournament was cancelled.
MinnDak was without John
Tschida, Bob Fleming, Guy Carlson, Lamar Noriega and Rick
Lang. The Millers would like to extend a thank you to
Gerald Muizelaar for playing with the Millers this past
weekend.
Below are summaries for each
game.
Pool Play, Pool A
Friday
#10 MinnDak Millers 11 The Bar
on the Avenue (Appleton, Wisc) 0, 6 innings
MinnDak opened their season
with a six-inning win over The Bar of Appleton. Travis
Price threw a no-hitter and perfect game to lead MinnDak
along with a four RBI performance by Roman Foore.
After a scoreless first
inning, MinnDak got on the board in the second. Four walks
to start the inning led to one run being walked in, with two
more being scored on wild pitches.
Roman Foore led off the third
with a double. After a Tony Kunka single and Ward Gosse
reaching on a fielder’s choice, Jason Wandler’s fielders
choice plated Foore.
The fourth inning saw MinnDak
score two more runs. Lucas Goring led off with a slap-hit
single. Gregg Cascaes reached on an error. Chad Boom was
walked to load the bases.
Roman Foore and Tony Kunka
had a pair of sacrifice flies to score another pair of runs.
MinnDak closed out their
scoring in the sixth inning. Lucas Goring led off with a
single, followed by Gregg Cascaes’ single.
Chad Boom reached on a
fielders choice after Cascaes was forced out at second.
Next up was Roman Foore, who hit a three-run homer. Ward
Gosse hit a homer two batters later.
Next, Jason Wandler walked,
reached second on a wild pitch then scores on Zach Goring’s
single.

The Miller bats came out
sluggish in there Saturday morning game.
MinnDak fell behind 2-0 after
Townline scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the second.
MinnDak cut the lead in half
two innings later when Tony Kunka led off with a single.
Reached second on a wild pitch, stole third, then scored on
a wild pitch.
Townline struck back in the
bottom of the fifth with another pair of runs, putting the
score at 4-1.
The MinnDak bats came alive
the next inning. Lucas Goring led off by reaching on an
error and was advanced to second on an interference call.
With one out, Chad Boom was
walked on four pitches. Roman Foore’s three-run homer
scored Goring and Boom and tied the score at four apiece.
Tony Kunka and Jason Wandler
were walked and James Darby, who replaced Betto Guerrineiri
to start the inning, was replaced by Guerrineiri.
Kunka and Wandler advanced a
base on a wild pitch. BJ Boom reached by an error that
scored Kunka, with Wandler scoring on an error on the same
play.
MinnDak added two more runs
in the seventh when Gregg Cascaes led off with a walk and
Chad Boom and Roman Foore walked.

MinnDak continued their hot
hitting in this game, but not before a three hour and
nineteen minute rain delay put the game on hold.
Thomson scored two runs on a
homer in the top of the second.
MinnDak countered in the
bottom half when with two outs, BJ Boom singled. Jason
Wandler entered as the two-out courtesy runner. Zach
Goring’s single moved Wandler up a base.
A single by Lucas Goring
loaded the bases. Gregg Cascaes’ single scored Wandler and
Zach Goring, with Lucas Goring moving to third.
Gregg Cascaes stole second.
With Chad Boom up and a full count, the umpires put the game
on rain delay.
Over three hours later, the
game resumed. Chad Boom walked, Roman Foore doubled to
score two, Tony Kunka walked and Ward Gosse singled to score
two more.
The Millers added four more
runs the next inning, when with one out Zach Goring walked,
Lucas Goring singled, moving Zach Goring to third. Zach
Goring scored on a single by Gregg Cascaes.
Lucas Goring scored on Chad
Boom’s sacrifice fly. Back to back doubles by Roman Foore
and Tony Kunka plated two more runs.
The Millers closed out their
scoring with three runs in the fourth. Jason Wandler and BJ
Boom led off with back to back singles. Both runners
advanced a base on Zach Goring’s fly ball out.
Lucas Goring’s double scored
on run and Chad Boom’s single scored another.

The Millers entered the game
knowing a win gave them the top seed in the pool, while a
loss put them into a possible tie-breaker scenario.
The Millers continued to use
hitting throughout the order to hold on for the win.
MinnDak pushed a run across
in the third.
Lucas Goring reached on a
fielder’s choice for the second out then stole second.
Gregg Cascaes walked, then Chad Boom’s single scored Goring.
MinnDak added two more runs
in the fifth inning. Lucas Goring led off with a single the
stole second.
With one out, Chad Boom hit a
ball to short. The Farm attempted a force at third, but
Lucas Goring was safe.
Roman Foore singled to score
Goring. With two outs, Ward Gosse singled to score Boom.
The Millers added a trio of
runs in the sixth, when with one out, BJ Boom, walked then
scored on a Lucas Goring triple. Gregg Cascaes singled to
score Goring.
Cascaes stole second then
scored when Roman Foore reached first base on an error.
The Farm rallied for four
runs in the top of the seventh, paced by Jeff Goolagong’s
two-run homer.
Ward Gosse relieved starter
Travis Price, who was hit a by a line drive an inning
earlier, and recorded a strike out to end the game.
